Wanaka is centrally located in New Zealand's Southern Alps on the shores of Lake Wanaka. Approximately five hours south of Christchurch or one hour north of Queenstown, Wanaka is just a short drive away from Treble Cone, Cardrona, Snow Park or Mount Aspiring National Park. Whether you drive or fly, you will be rewarded with stunning views. But beware, the roads can be narrow, steep and windy and in winter this includes ice, snow and slush!
Most foreign visitors to Wanaka fly into either Christchurch or Queenstown and either rent a car or catch a bus to Wanaka. Flights to Christchurch are generally cheaper, but the extra 4 hours of driving persude many to fly to Queenstown.
